Sun protection technology combined with acoustic resonating surfaces
Exceptionally high technical requirements were placed on the Stottrop fabric when used
under the roof area of the new football stadium in Munich. The 36.000 m² light screens are partly movable. At the push of a button the screens can be extended and retracted, so that in
between use the grass receives sufficient sunlight to grow.
In addition the screens positively influence the stadium acoustics, and thereby the well being of the spectators. To achieve the specialized requirements set by the Architects Herzog and de Meuron, Basel, the fabrics were developed in cooperation with specialized light- and acoustic institutes.
The light and acoustic screens achieved the necessary sound absorption in the area of the stadium roof.
The fabric had to meet the following specifications:
- Sun screen fabric in the form of a non-flammable grey fabric, meeting the specification DIN 4102-A2.
- Values for solar radiation:
Reflection: > 55%
Transmission < 40 %
Absorption: < 5%
Screen fabrics for blackout purposes, certified according to 4102-A2 und EN 13501-2, also suitable for digital print.
